I love the phrase, “growing old”. If we’re lucky we all get a chance to do it.
The idea was planted in me when I was a child by my grandma. Those two words often came from her mouth as she shared her life stories with me. She told me that life is a journey built around growing. It’s filled with ups-and-downs; it can be exciting, frustrating, wonderful and boring -- all at the same time! It’s a choose-your-own adventure that produces the most valuable thing we end up possessing: our life experience.
A lot of times people think their stories aren’t worth sharing or remembering but the truth is there is no one like you in the entire world; especially when it comes to your place in your family. The famous actor, Keanu Reeves, who lost his daughter and girlfriend, once shared what has become one of my favorite quotes regarding this idea – “The ones who love us will miss us.”

It’s why creating a video memory (Vimory™) is more than just turning on a video camera – it’s an in-depth look at someone’s life and more than that, it’s a celebration of that life with the goal of connecting the generations who have lived a full life to the ones who may just be starting out.
It creates a chance to bond as a family. Whether that’s asking a great aunt for old photos of dad, or contacting a mom’s brother to get some old film of one’s great-grandparents.
The process is always a joint effort by a family, and is fun, engaging, and brings people together to appreciate someone they all mutually care about.

At the start of the process, we have you determine story prompts that we use as a guide to crafting your Vimory. It’s a great exercise in reflection and could entail anything about your life from your career, your individual hopes and dreams, your values, and perhaps, your faith.
Some prompts may lead to interview questions like:
- What can you share about your grandparents, parents, and childhood?
- What are you most proud of?
- What are a couple life-changing decisions you made and why?
- What advice do you have when it comes to a committed relationship?
The variety of topics is truly endless and the only limitation is your imagination.

It’s an investment you will not live to see the payoff from but what you’re offering is a way for your family to see, hear and learn about your life that would otherwise be lost to a fading memory.
